Alcohol-promoted ring-opening alkyne metathesis polymerization.
Alcohol is the answer! An inactive, air-stable, dimeric molybdenum alkylidyne complex is activated toward ring-opening alkyne metathesis polymerization (ROAMP) by the addition of methanol. The ROAMP is compatible with water and phenol-containing substrates and with the in situ photochemical generation of alkyne monomers from cyclopropenones.

In living ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP), a transition-metal-carbene complex polymerizes ring-strained olefins with very good control of the molecular weight of the resulting polymers. Because one molecule of the initiator is required for each polymer chain, however, this type of polymerization is expensive for widespread use. We have now designed a chain-transfer agent (CTA) cap...
متن کاملCure Kinetics of the Ring-Opening Metathesis Polymerization of Dicyclopentadiene
The cure kinetics of polydicyclopentadiene prepared by ring-opening metathesis polymerization with three different concentrations of Grubbs’ catalyst were examined with differential scanning calorimetry. The experimental data were used to test several different phenomenological kinetic models. The data were best modeled with a model-free isoconversional method. This analysis revealed that the a...
متن کاملSynthesis of High Performance Cyclic Olefin Polymers (COPs) with Ester Group via Ring-Opening Metathesis Polymerization
Novel ester group functionalized cyclic olefin polymers (COPs) with high glass transition temperature, high transparency, good mechanical performance and excellent film forming ability have been achieved in this work via efficient ring-opening metathesis copolymerization of exo-1,4,4a,9,9a,10-hexahydro-9,10(1′,2′)-benzeno-l,4-methanoanthracene (HBM) and comonomers (5-norbornene-2-yl methylaceta...
متن کاملPolyterpenes by ring opening metathesis polymerization of caryophyllene and humulene
Polymers with their myriad functions are indispensable to any modern technology. Today, their production is largely based on fossil fuels. In view of their limited range, other sources are desirable on the long term. Beyond such considerations, renewable resources are also attractive as they can contain unique chemical structures. Thus, carbohydrates, fatty acids or terpenes contain a wealth of...
